The First stART Art Competition was launched in March 2012 under the “Just Imagine” Project.  10 orphanages / care centres responded to the invitation to submit artwork based on the theme:  “What Makes Me Happy”.   stART provided the participants with paper and crayons. The following organisations are participating:

  • Ngombe School
  • Lubuto Library
  • Kasisi
  • Pestalozzi
  • Chikumbuso
  • Open Arms
  • Tim Mead – Lady of Hope Hospice
  • Pam Guhrs-Carr – Mfuwe
  • 24 Lusaka-based CIDRZ clinics
  • Mwamba’s Boys – 6 street working children

From these entrants, 30+ young artists were selected and invited to attend the first stART sponsored 2-day Workshop.  The workshop is being held at the Henry Tiyali Centre (Visual Arts Council) in the Lusaka Showgrounds.  The Workshop  programme is designed and  co-ordinated by Mwamba Mulengala, Chafwila Mulenga, Laurey Nevers and William Miko.

We are very excited to have the competition under way and are looking forward to seeing the results! Have a look at some pictures from the first day of the workshop below:
