“Soly Cisse” Children’s Art Workshop

Another greatly successful children’s art workshop was held from the 27th-29th of March at Lubuto Library in Garden Compound, mentored by Laurey Nevers and assisted by Mapopa Manda.

The group was selected from the initial “Paper” workshop held last November. The children were encouraged to experiment with a wide range of media after having viewed the Soly Cisse Exhibition at 37d Gallery, being encouraged to take notice of the artist’s free use of paint, charcoal, collage and pastel. In preparation, the children also viewed a video of Cisse in the act of creating a work, to watch his live and free manner when using his materials.

Laurey encouraged the group to demonstrate a wide use of materials and styles in their works. As a demonstration, Laurey showed the group various painting techniques and how to use these in their collage works.
The success of the workshop was to be seen in the finished artworks, where the strong conceptualisation of what they had learnt from their understanding of Laurey’s mentoring and Cisse’s practices is outstandingly evident.

A warm thank you to Laurey Nevers, Mapopa Manda, Lubuto Library Project, Pestalozzi, Chikumbuso, and Roy Chitwila.
